3. Tagging parks in OSM

Parks, or open space areas designated for recreational use, are typically mapped in OSM as areas with the tag leisure=park
. This convention is appropriate for smaller parks found in urban areas. Larger national parks are mapped differently.
Below is a list of attributes/features and associated amenities commonly mapped in urban park areas along with links to the OSM wiki that should provide useful mapping tips.
tagged directly on park area
- name of park (official or unofficial)
- entity in charge of park
- opening hours
- presence of lighting
- wheelchair accessibility
mapped and tagged as node or way within park area
- bench
- water fountain
- trash or recycling can
- flagpole
- bike rack
- parking
- barrier
- vending machine
- restroom
- statue or memorial
- public art (e.g. sculpture or mural)
- tree (individual)
The following can mapped as areas or single node within park area.
