I've also thought about maybe not using the user-specific temp dir for running tests in case that somehow might make the failure rate lower, but it's hard to compare the failure rates because that specific access denied failure is hard to consistently trigger. |
Yeah, in the last few days I saw one non-tempdir failure vs. many tempdir ones. So I think the failure rate is perhaps lower but it still does fail spuriously. |
Initially I also thought okay maybe there are too many temp dirs in the user-specific temp dir, but AFAICT these temp dirs do get properly cleaned up when the temp dir gets dropped, so I don't think that's it. (I overrode the temp dir env var in compiletest to see what actually gets left behind) |
On Windows, if creating a temporary directory fails with permission denied then use a retry/backoff loop. This hopefully fixes a recuring error in our CI.
