Notes on release

What went well

  • We captured editorial lessons learned and built a robust editorial process
  • Got good SME reviews
  • We opted for a preview release rather than wait to release a fully finished product (hope it generates additional interest)
  • Liked the way the project was managed in https://github.com/theopensourceway/guidebook/projects/1. It was nice to be able to see where chapters were in various stages.

What didn’t go well

  • A chapter got forgotten in the first push
  • Slipped by a few weeks (for good cause)

Notes for next time

  • Need a release process to follow
    • Heads up for everyone ahead of a release to help double-check things (+1)
  • Pre-prepare social media for release
  • Tooling fixes
    • Would be nice to update our AsciiDoc syntax so Karsten doesn't need a script to adjust headings every time we push code
  • CI/CD for build and publish Is there a documentation on “exit criteria” for each stage (e.g. moving from drafting to development * edit)?
