017-rc1
We are getting closer to 017! This first release candidate updates 017-beta by:
- Embracing PulseAudio
- Fixing support for NVMe, pure UEFI firmware, and internationalization in the Installer tool
- Settling on NcursesW 6.2 and removing the non-wide characters Ncurses package
- Upgrading Linux kernel to 5.6.10
- Adding an experimental Awesome widget to connect to Bluetooth devices
- Adding a few desktop applications: Audacious music player, Firefox 76, and RawTherapee photo editor
- Updating our Compile and Scripts packages, which are now shipped as a Git repository (so updating them is as easy as running
git pull
)
017-beta
This is the second preview of GoboLinux 017. It updates several system packages and features the following improvements over 017 alpha:
- A new model for recipe management based on Git. Users can now submit pull requests on GitHub or use the revamped
ContributeRecipe
tool to automate that process. Recipes contributed that way are made available to other users as soon as PRs are approved. The Compile tool is fully aware of that new workflow. - Migration of AbsTk (our widget toolkit) to Qt5: we have a graphical installer again.
- Removal of
FiboSandbox
, as we have been depending onUnionSandbox
(a unionfs-based sandbox) for a long time. GoboLinux Rootless, which has been deprecated for several years now, was the only reason we kept it around for so long. - Massive simplification of Scripts and Compile along with assorted bug fixes.
017-alpha
This is the first preview of GoboLinux 017. This alpha snapshot is being released primarily so that the new boot process and the installer can be tested ahead of time -- this means that the ISO still features several outdated packages that were carried over from 016.01 (Firefox included). Those will be reviewed/refreshed over the coming weeks.
Some of the changes that GoboLinux 017-alpha brings over 016.01 include:
- Incorporation of an Initramfs for improved hardware compatibility
- Deprecation of Python 2. All GoboLinux tools featured in this ISO have been ported to Python 3
- Removal of Libtool ".la" files for better source-based package management
- Support for the Meson build system on Compile
- Update toolchain to Glibc 2.30, GCC 9.2.0, BinUtils 2.33.1, and the kernel to version 5.4.15
