The copyediting I did as part of the 1.3.0 release changed a lot of strings, which probably broke a lot of translations. I updated the potfile as part of that release, so translators should be able to use msgmerge to update their pofiles and then work from there.

Same thing with the 1.4.0 release

A question from #54 that I never got answered: now that I can actually see all of the pofile headers for all the translations, including the email addresses, I'm wondering if it would make sense to send out a mass email to all of the addresses listed to let them know that there's new translation to be done? And/or the translators listed in the credits?

It may be worth trying along with official i18n mailing list and Translations & Internationalization forum.

It may be worth trying along with official i18n mailing list and Translations & Internationalization forum.

I made a thread in the forum, but barely anyone has bothered replying there yet: https://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?t=54568
I guess I'll try the mailing list next...

It may be worth trying,

OK I emailed all the addresses from the pofiles and a number of them bounced; the following addresses should be removed:

  • both Russian ones (ru at li dot org and alexey at remizov dot pp dot ru)
  • the Turkish Google Groups one
  • the Catalan language team list at ettin dot org
  • the KDE Italian i18n list (well technically this one works, it just has a pingback about being put in a moderation queue)

Hi, It was problem to generate .pot file, so i left the project. But if you send me a .pot file, i can update hungarian translation

The .pot file is here: https://github.com/nemaara/A_New_Order/blob/master/translations/wesnoth-A_New_Order.pot
Click the "raw" button to get the raw .pot file to be able to download it: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nemaara/A_New_Order/master/translations/wesnoth-A_New_Order.pot

...although, we've already run msgmerge to update all the language-specific .po files, so you can just start directly with the Hungarian one: https://github.com/nemaara/A_New_Order/blob/master/translations/wesnoth-A_New_Order/hu.po
...or, to skip straight to the "raw" version: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nemaara/A_New_Order/master/translations/wesnoth-A_New_Order/hu.po

You can either submit it as a pull request on GitHub, or email it to me, or send it as an attachment to me in a Discord DM, or... well, there are a lot of ways. What would work best for you?

I wonder...

  • if @Pyrophorus is the same one who did the French translation?
  • if @GitMensch is the Simon Sobisch who contributed to the German translation?
  • if @alxrem is the Alexey Remizov who contributed to the Russian translation?
  • if @nilgun is the Nilgün Belma Bugüner who did the Turkish translation?

(apologies to the tagged if I already asked this via email, but I forgot the answers, and plus it would be better to have people's involvement status written down here publicly anyways)
(I did remove some email addresses from some of the pofiles in 3b78bce, which was merged in PR #94, but I forgot to distinguish between the ones that bounced, and the ones where people said they no longer wished to be involved...)

Just FYI, the "translations" part for the _server.pbl currently looks like this:

[translation]
    language="ca"
    title=

[/translation]
[translation]
    language="cs"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]

    language="de"
    title=

[translation]
    language="en_GB"
    title=

    language="es"
    title=

[translation]

    title=

[translation]
    language="hu"
    title=
    description=

[translation]
    language="it"
    title=

[translation]
    language="pl"
    title=

    title=

    language="sv"
    title=

[/translation]
[translation]
    language="tr"
    title=

...just in case any translators would like to submit custom titles and/or descriptions for any of their translations.

An example would be good. Is this OK?

[translation]
    language="tr"
    title="Yeni Bir Düzen"
    description="Vesnot'un eski krallığında dolaşan haydutlar, paralı askerler gibi unsurları Gevin Hagarten ortak bir düşmana karşı birleştiebilir mi?"
[/translation]

@cooljeanius
Copy link

I guess the English one would look something like this:

[translation]
    language="en_US"
    title="A New Order"
    description="The old kingdom of Wesnoth has fallen before barbarian hordes. The occupying barbarians are on the brink of civil war, the seeds of Wesnothian rebellion are kept alive by old legends, while bandits and Dunefolk mercenaries roam the land. Can Gawen Hagarthen unite these disparate factions against a common foe?"
[/translation]

(figuring out #212 would probably help here)

Perhaps @k-konami will contribute a Japanese translation some day? There are a lot of strings to translate, though, so maybe it'd be better to divide up the work with some of the other Japanese players, such as @oo13...

Indeed, there are quite a lot of items to translate, so I'm working on them little by little, hoping to have them ready at some point, though I can't say exactly when. I finished another task yesterday, so I might get around to this one when I have some more time.

It's ok to do just part of it! In fact, breaking down the translation into a bunch of smaller PRs would probably be easier for me to review than having one big one, and that goes for any other translators thinking of updating theirs, too. Just do what you can when you can; every little bit helps.
