CABLE committee meeting, 29th April 2016, 2.00pm

  1. Trunk updates:

  • #100 now also fixed on trunk *

b) Updates in progress

i) #62 (radiation/albedo bug fix, ASAP), #92 (if BP confirms), #66 (initialisation bug), #89

  • Could be good to try Jenkins testing on these changes *

    ii) SLI and POP and other VH/LN enhancements, #18, #61, #73, #93, #90, #94. Meeting held between VH, JS, BP, RL, (LN)

  • RL distributed notes from meeting to attendees, but need to follow-up on progress (RL to check with BP). JS working on merge. VH confirmed parallel code tests with GSWP/GSWP2 sub-set of locations. JS/VH to try and progress further before VH goes overseas. *

  1. CABLE-JULES coupling

a) Progress with coupling into UM8.5 for ACCESS-CM2.

  • Still pursuing surface energy imbalance over bare ground. *

    b) CABLE in JULES4.2/UM10.1

  • CABLE code from UM8.5 reproduced in UM10.1. Builds OK. Run tests underway. *

  1. Benchmarking/test suite

a) CABLE technical test suite – Jenkins work (NH)

  • Most technical tests set up e.g. compile and run for different cases. Setting up a one-click test (to cover multiple test runs) with reporting. Link for report can be put into tickets as part of documenting testing of developments. Started on some science testing e.g. PLUMBER type runs (Tumbarumba). Development guidelines being updated to include the Jenkins testing step (currently in a draft document but will be part of wiki pages - with associated clean-up of current pages). *

    b) PALS

  • Nothing new to report on PALS. GA attending upcoming iLambs meeting in US (YPW also attending). *

  1. CABLE development work

a) CABLE for CMIP6

Nothing to report

b) Land use change

*VH working on capability to participate in next Trendy LSM simulations which will include factorial cases with/without land use change. *

  • Land C conservation fix from VH being tested in ACCESS. Some improvement but needs more work to understand why some tiles not fixed. *
  1. Meetings

a) AMOS conference 2017, special sessions

*JK (and AP) submitted session on land-atmosphere interactions. VH (and TZ, ZL) submitted session on land carbon. *

  1. Next meeting date: Friday May 27th?
  • Propose 3pm start on May 27th for VH to possibly participate from Europe. JK to confirm availability. *
  1. Any other business

  • Lars finishes at CSIRO on 17 May, so this is his last committee meeting - we thank him for his contributions to CABLE over his time at CSIRO and hope to continue the collaboration as he moves to Lund. *

  • Last video conference raised the issue of CABLE's treatment of leaf respiration. VH will write up what she's done as a basis for further discussion. *
